Tenant Simrat Rai left the Pakuranga Heights house in disrepair.
An Auckland tenant has been ordered to pay $ 7,000 to fix what a cleaning company called the “dirtiest house” he had ever seen.
The Leases Court learned that professional cleaners took two days to clean up the mess.
They had to remove rotten food, clean the oven, clean the kitchen drawers, and clean the laundry surfaces that were covered in lint.
The ceiling and walls were “littered” with debris caused by excessive smoke from a shisha pipe, the court found. All surfaces, including window sills, had to be painted at a cost of $ 4400.

Some of the curtains had also been burned to burn incense or torn by a dog.
Owners Grant and Elaine McGough dismantled the air conditioning unit, but were unable to remove the thick dirt residue, which they believed was due to excess tobacco.
“The carpet required deep cleaning due to the large stain that included dog excrement, vomit, smoking debris, coffee and food stains,” the court ruling said.
The tenant also left the rent without some of his belongings, such as a dining chair, a door mat and the trash can.
Aneterea awardee Andrew Aiolupotea also determined that the tenant had caused a hole in the wall that “looked like it had thrown something at it”.
The property had been renovated shortly before the tenant settled.
The owners also claimed there was a cockroach infestation, which they discovered after cleaning up the property.
“Given the owner’s account of the necessary cleaning, I find it more likely than not that the infestation was caused by the tenant’s lifestyle,” Aiolupotea said.
